Daihatsu Copen

January 5, 2011 by

Daihatsu showed this like a concept in 1999 in the Tokyo Motor Show, a proposed new entrant into Japan’s K-Car micro sports vehicle class.

Reception am overwhelmingly favourable that within 3 years it had become a production reality, and it is available these days in most global markets.

Powered along with a diminutive 660cc turbo-charged engine the vehicle is more than simply a style statement; it is fun to drive, its nimble chassis feeling surprisingly nippy.

A neat electrically-operated folding steel roof provides protection in adverse weather, also it comes standard having a host of desirable features including ac and power everything.

Daihatsu

January 5, 2011 by

Despite building cars for close on the century, Daihatsu remains one of Japan’s smallest auto makers; it is dwarfed through the likes of Toyota and Honda.

Daihatsu could never compete in the volume car market with no considerable level of outside help, instead the organization has concentrated exclusively on building small cars, and helped itself offset development costs with a number of strategic agreements, not minimal which is by using Perodua in Malaysia.

Host from the product is quirky and, to European eyes, over-fussy In relation to styling. But once in awhile they come up with a complete gem: the Terios micro off-roader and also the Copen two-seater sports vehicle are great examples of cars which capture the imagination of buyers all over the world.

Another cars in the range appear to have been built down to a cost, but there are worse sins that the manufacturer can commit; Daihatsu recognize that there will always be an industry for cheaper cars.

Daewoo Tacuma

January 5, 2011 by

Daewoo’s contender in the fiercely-contested multi-purpose vehicle sector has gained a brand new new look which aligns the model more closely using its newer stable mates; the clumsy grille therefore the old model has now gone, towards the great relief from the taste police.

In relation to packaging the Tacuma is usually Daewoo; plenty of bits that many manufacturers charge extra for come as standard. Porsche were involved in the suspension system design, hence it handles better than may be expected, there is a good spread of engine and transmission options that provide something for many audience.

The inside packaging is clever and versatile and certainly a match for other similar vehicles however the major advantage the vehicle has over many rivals may be the Daewoo ownership experience; fixed-running costs allow for happy drivers.

Daewoo Nubira

January 5, 2011 by

The Nubira 4 door sedan used to look decidedly unfashionable when parked up alongside all of those other range. Any longer. Restyled by Ferrari mainstay Pininfarina your body looks much less cluttered than previously; this in line using the ‘less is more’ approach from the Matiz, Lacetti and Kalos.

The vehicle offers a lot to buyers for modest sums of cash; this is especially true of the recently-introduced estate variant. Don’t search for great driving dynamics, though; the vehicle feels soft, unsurprising when you consider the average chronilogical age of Nubira buyer.

A competent selection of engines, none that would ever set the planet alight but that are best referred to as adequate for the task in hand, and also the soft automatic transmission option, are very well suited to the entire package and market position of Nubira.

Daewoo Matiz

January 4, 2011 by

Daewoo began its corporate re-definition with this particular excellent little city car, a complete four seater with peppy engine choice (whether 3 cylinder 800cc or perhaps a four cylinder 1.0 litre) and five speed transmission.

Handling is nice, and allows the driver to make probably the most of city driving conditions. Equipment levels are high (although while using ac about the smaller-engined model dulls acceleration by a marked amount) and also the car is wonderfully frugal, even if made to work hard.

Owner loyalty levels are extremely high, which speaks volumes for the car’s success. The only one difficulty that Daewoo will probably experience is originating up with something of the same quality at replacement time, without forcing the cost point as much as unacceptable levels.

It is feasible that the global product, branded under different names in the GM portfolio, may be the response to that one.

Daewoo Kalos

January 4, 2011 by

The everyman Daewoo is up against some stiff competition (like the Fiesta or even the Getz, to name but two) however it seems to stand its corner; because of the expected values of excellent styling, engineering and equipment, all in a bargain basement price.

The styling represents a subtle shift from over-fussy detailing that could have once proved irresistible to Daewoo, but nonetheless has an adequate amount of the brand’s DNA to please older-established buyers of the trademark.

Accommodation is on the par along with other cars in the class, which makes it adequate for many buyers. Handling is very European in feel and also the car’s looks likewise, because of easy and uncluttered lines.

Just two engines can be found; a modest 1200cc along with a lively 1.4 16 valve, and also the latter could be had with automatic transmission. A worthy indicator of what lengths Daewoo originates in the last 3 years as well as where it is prone to go.

Daewoo Lacetti

January 4, 2011 by

Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, the Lacetti comes with an athletic look that moves Daewoo forward in terms of looks, and backs this up with a similarly European package of power train and suspension systems.

The end result is a car that’s far closer to in feel and character to cars built in Saarlouis compared to those we’re accustomed to getting from Seoul.

Engine options are 1.4 or 1.6 petrol units (having a 1.8 due soon, but no diesel variant yet, apparently) and acceleration is all about what you’d expect in these kinds.

High amounts of trim and equipment, dean handling along with a satisfyingly solid quality ail equal to excellent value. Look for the Sport variant, it is very exciting to drive.

Daewoo

January 4, 2011 by

Settling properly into its world role like a General Motors budget brand, Daewoo is entering a time of sustained growth with new models gradually entering production. Having learned in the excellent little Matiz how the mixture of smart European body and chassis design with emerging country amounts of build cost results in quality value for those.

Daewoo has moved to the next phase using the Kalos and Lacetti models. This is then further new models (using the Nubira sedan replacement looking ever-more urgent) within the next few years, since the brand benefits from increased research and development resources supplied by its parent group.

General Motors recently announced that Daewoo’s technical centre in Korea may have an ever-bigger role in the GM family, and they are searching for a ‘halo car’ which will gain Daewoo global approval, almost as much ast the MX-5 has achieved for Mazda. So expect interesting things from Daewoo In the future.

Citroen Picasso

January 4, 2011 by

Competing head-on using the Renault Scenic, Picasso is a curvy machine that still looks distinctly futuristic.

The impression continues inside, using the digital read-out instrumentation. Full of cubby holes with flexible seating, the vehicle meets demands on its accommodation nicely.

If there is a weakness it is the handling; the vehicle is quite softly-sprung, and directed at pitching and tossing into bends and comers.

What this means is it is rare to extract the best from the selection of high torque engines. Beginning to look wear and tear when compared to newer rivals from Ford and Renault.

Citroen C8

January 4, 2011 by

The big Citroen people carrier shares a lot of its content with the Peugeot 807; the main distinctions between your two are in the radiator grille design and also the trim specification.

As may be expected the Citroen is at the top of inherent Frenchness. The vehicle is exceptionally well equipped, even in its basic level form, there is a selection of driveline options that offer something for almost everyone.

Given the van-like dimensions from the car don’t expect too much in the method of fast cornering -just relaxed and cozy straight line driving since it utilizes the highway miles.

Citroen C5

January 4, 2011 by

A considerable sedan also available in estate form which combines smooth ride with a lot of space and an interior that approaches a 3 piece suite on wheels for comfort, C5 is definitely an intelligent choice to look-alike fleet cars for example Mondeo, Passat or Vectra.

Travel in the C5 is a relaxed experience; this isn’t a car to become hustled hard, in view of their ride-biased suspension settings.

Likewise, the option of engines happen to be carefully specified to supply plenty of waft-along torque, instead of urgent forward motion.

Accept those prerequisites to ownership also it becomes a pleasurable car.

Citroen C4

January 4, 2011 by

Newly announced, the C4 breaks into new territory for Citroen, being simultaneous launches of the five door hatch along with a three door coupe.

The cars share a typical platform, which means a variety of four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and the selection of sequential or manual transmissions found in C3.

A central control and instrumentation cluster within the car means easy manufacture of right hand drive versions from the car. Other radical moves include the utilization of laminated side glass, and adaptive headlamps.

Citroen see C4 like a further shift luxury but expect prices to become broadly in line with the ones from the Xsara.
